How to Help Kids Eat More Veggies (Without Fighting)
As a parent, you know better than anyone what works best for your family, but if you’re looking for ways to help a stubborn kid eat his or her veggies, here are other methods to consider.
Find new, different ways to cook veggies your kids already like. Put them in familiar dishes or pair them with foods your kids already like. This variety can help them keep an open mind and discover that new pairings aren’t always off-putting.

If kids are hesitant about trying a new veggie, don’t be afraid to dress it up in “unhealthy” ways to make it more enticing. Topping sweet potatoes or roasted broccoli with their favorite sauce or cheese—or even breading and deep-frying it—can help kids overcome their hesitation. Once they’re comfortable with it, you can make healthier versions over time. Purists may frown on this strategy, and there’s certainly a limit to how much sugar and fried foods you want to serve, but I’ve seen it open up new horizons in my own home and with my clients’ kids.
