Testing should be part of the product specification, not an afterthought added after manufacturing.
The correct testing scope depends on the product, ingredients, destination market and customer requirements.
Start with the specification
Before choosing tests, define what the product is supposed to be.
That may include specifications for:
- Identity
- Composition
- Strength
- Physical characteristics
- Microbiological limits
- Contaminants where relevant
The exact requirements depend on product type and market.
What a COA does
A Certificate of Analysis records results for a material or batch against defined specifications.
A COA may include:
- Product/material name
- Lot number
- Specification
- Method
- Result
- Pass/fail status
The scope should be reviewed rather than assuming every COA contains the same information.
Raw material and finished product are different
A raw-material COA does not automatically answer every question about the finished supplement.
The testing plan may need to consider both raw materials and finished product requirements.
Third-party laboratory testing
Additional independent testing may be useful when:
- A customer requires it
- A retailer requires it
- A marketplace requests documentation
- A destination market requires specific evidence
- The buyer wants independent verification
SILKROAD LANTING can coordinate with independent third-party testing laboratories when the project requires it.
Define testing before quotation
Testing can affect:
- Cost
- Sample quantity
- Production timing
- Release timing
- Documentation
If a buyer requests an extensive test panel after production, the project may be delayed.
Testing requirements should be included in the quotation stage.
FDA CGMP context
For U.S. dietary supplements, FDA CGMP guidance addresses specifications, quality control, documentation and supplier qualification. FDA dietary supplement CGMP guide
Buyers should still review their own responsibilities and destination-market requirements.
Marketplace or retailer requirements
Commercial channels may request documentation beyond basic factory records.
Ask your marketplace, distributor or retailer what they require before production begins.
This can prevent a product from being finished but unable to enter the planned sales channel.
What to send us
If you have a testing requirement, send:
- Product
- Formula
- Market
- Test list
- Customer/retailer requirement
- Required laboratory type if specified
We can review whether the request should be included in the project plan.
Testing should have a reason
More tests do not automatically mean a better product.
The testing plan should be connected to product risk, specification, regulation or customer requirement.
To discuss testing and documentation, contact Nina@siroad.net or WhatsApp.
Request a sample and calculate your product cost.
Send the product name or reference, target market, estimated quantity and packaging idea. We can discuss a stock formula, formula adjustment or custom R&D route, then confirm sampling and manufacturing cost.
